Introduction
This article covers the basics of the Commission module configuration. You will learn from it how to set up commissions for your employees. Note, that this information is only an initial set up.
Before you start
Read the article on the Commission module overview.
Accessing the Commissions module requires specific system permissions. Make sure you have access to the System administration / Commissions permission.

How to set up Commissions?
1. Go to the PGM -> Clubs -> Employees -> Commissions. You will see this screen:
2. Click on the Add commission schedule to add the commission schedule. A window will pop up:
Commissions are calculated every specified period of time, for example, every month or two weeks. Most of the time you will need only one schedule. However, if you are granting commissions in different periods of time (like every month and every year) you have to add another schedule.
3. Fill in required fields:
- Name - just a display name - allows to easier find commission reports later
- Calculate commissions from date - at which date should the commissions schedule start. By default, it's a current date, but you can change that to something else. You can also change that to be a date in the past, so you can calculate commissions for the previous month. This may be a convenient way to test the module on real data from the past.
- Schedule frequency - how often will the commission be calculated. For some options, you will also have to specify on which exact moment should the commission period end.
Example: you want to grant commissions on a monthly basis, every 10th of the month. Club opens on March 25th and this is the moment you want to start calculating commissions. Your set up will look like this:
This is how it would look like in the calendar:
As you can see, commissions are being calculated starting from March 25th, but because the commission period ends on the 10th of every month, the first commission period will be shorter than others. Subsequent periods, however, will stick to the schedule.
4. After saving, you will see your schedule in the list.
How to add Commission rules?
Now it's time to add some rules on how commissions should be calculated.
There are 5 types of rules, you can configure:
- Contract sales - grants commission from selling a contract.
- Product sale - grants commission from selling products through the PGM / POS or the Client Portal in the employee mode.
- Personal trainings - grants commission from performing personal trainings
- Group classes - grants commission from performing group classes
- Aggregate commission - advanced rule, that allows calculating commissions from a sum of other rules output. For example, if you want your commission thresholds to depend on the contracts sold and PTs combined.
You can have one or more commission rules for a single schedule, depending on how complicated the algorithm you want to use. It is possible to configure complex scenarios with multiple rules.
1. Click Add rule and choose one of the above:
2. Fill in every part of the pop-up window. Every rule consists of 3 parts.
3. Choose the base value for calculating the commission.
Base value is a metric, is used to calculate if a commission threshold is met or not.
Example: for PT commissions, you can base your commissions on the number of trainings done, or on the value of the trainings. If you want to grant commissions only if they provide 10 trainings in a month, the number of trainings will be your base value. But if you want them to do trainings for at least 1000$, training value will be your base.
There are also some additional fields, i.e.: "Depends on other commission rule". This one is quite advanced and will be covered later.
-
Parameters that tell what is and what isn't commissioned.
For example which payment plans will be commissioned by contract sales rule or for which clubs this rule works.
This allows you to specify in detail how you want to commission specific actions and build rules for complex scenarios.
For example, if you want to grant 10$ for selling a basic payment plan, but 20$ for a premium one, you would have to create 2 separate rules, one per each of the plans. Then in commission thresholds, you would set up different values for each payment plan.
-
Commission thresholds & values.
This is a configuration of how much money will be granted to the employee. For example, you can give 10$ per every contract sold, or 30% of the value of PT done. You can also add some requirements for base value and add multiple thresholds.
4. After saving you will see it on the list:
5. Test out the commissions' set up.
Commissions are updated every day, but to test your configuration you will want to run the calculations on-demand.
6. Click on "Recalculate schedule" to run the commission calculation:
Calculating commissions may take some time, especially in case of a more complex setup.
7. After finishing, go to the Calculated commissions tab. You will see some reports generated:
On the list above you can see 2 reports calculated. One for the previous period and one for the current one.
8. To see the report, click on a detailed view or download it as an Excel file.
