Introduction
This article is an overview of the module Activity categories. This is used within the course, class and personal training modules.
- This article shows all the actions you can make within the Activity category module in PGM.
- This article will be helpful to PG Champion, Club Manager, and Club Owner.
Before you start
To gain access to this module, this is configured in PGM -> Clubs -> System Permission. In the employee role, make sure these settings are ticked.

Feature description
To access activity categories, go to PGM->Classes->Activity categories.
This will display a new screen with all activity categories currently set up on the system.
Levels and skills are located within their category.
Name - the name of the activity category, these categories will group like levels/skills within it.
Is active - when the specific activity category is active a tick mark will be displayed.
Show levels - this will expand the category and show the levels attached to it.
+ Add trainer level - this will allow you to add a trainer level to the category. This allows trainers to have specialised skill sets within the personal training module, as it will allow the club members to choose the correct personal trainer for their needs.
Trainer levels are required within the Personal Training module.
+ Add member level - this will allow you to add a member level to the category. A member level will restrict who can access the class or course based on their skills.
Member levels are required within the Course module, however not required for single classes.
Edit - edit the category name or edit the ability for the system to validate user skills.
Create or edit assessment questionnaire - set a list of questions during the enrollment process in client portal to determine what level they are in.
Delete - delete the activity category and its levels.
If the category is linked to a course, this cannot be deleted.
Configure skill progression - this will allow you to select a progression score for skills.
This will apply to all categories.
Add activity category
To add an activity category press Add activity category.
Name - Create a unique name for the category.
Validate user skill - If ticked, this will prevent a club member who does not have this skill from accessing the class/course.
Validate user skills is not used in the personal training module.
Show levels
This will display the trainer or member levels of the activity category.
- Trainer levels are used within the personal training module.
- Member levels are used within the course and class modules.
A level should not have both trainer and member levels attached to the same category.
Trainer levels
To add a trainer level, click on the ●●● icon and press + add trainer level.
This will bring up a new screen which will allow you to create a new level. Enter in a new unique name here and press Save.
This option will now be visible in PGM->Classes->Personal training definitions, do not forget to update your trainers in PGM -> Clubs -> Employee Skills.
Name - Name of the trainer levels currently set.
These will be visible in both PGM and Client Portal.
Order - Use the arrows to change the order of the trainer levels.
Edit - Edit the name of the trainer level.
Delete - Delete the level. This will no longer be offered once deleted.
Member levels
To add a member level, click on the ●●● icon and press + add member level.
Name - Enter a name for the new activity level.
Has skills - If this is for a course, you may wish to add skills to the level by selecting yes. This will produce additional options
Add skill - Selecting this icon will add a skill to the level. Each time you press Add Skill, this will create a new line below.
Pressing X to the right to remove the skill. This will remove the skill from view for all students in this level.
Press Save to add in the level.
Name - Name of the level, the order displayed here is the progression of the levels from beginner to advanced.
Arrows - This will allow you to change the hierarchy of the levels.
Edit - This will allow you to edit a previously created level, and add new skills to this level.
Delete - Deletion of the level, If the delete button is not visible, then this level cannot be deleted as it is assigned to a student and/or class/group.
Create or edit the assessment questionnaire
Set a list of questions during the client portal enrollment process to determine their level.
To create or edit assessment questionnaires, click on the ●●● icon then press Create or edit assessment questionnaire.
This will produce a new screen, allowing you to control the questions.
Active - You can set the questions to be active or not. If this is deactivated no member will use the questionnaires during the enrollment process.
Name - This is the level name, this is set in order of hierarchy of the levels within the activity category.
Question - This is the question you wish to ask the student.
Description - This will display an extended description for the question.
This is an optional field.
Translations - If you are using multiple languages on your site, selecting Translate will allow you to add in additional languages.
The maximum level will not have a question, the system will put you in this level if you have answered Yes to all previous questions.
Add a picture or video link - This will allow you to add a video or picture to the question. This will be displayed in the client portal only.
Video link - enter the URL for the video link.
Streaming from YouTube and Vimeo will be displayed as an embedded player, other providers will be presented as a link which will open a separate browser tab.
Picture - Insert a picture into the question.
- Select Choose a file or drag an image file into the box.
- Press Upload to upload the file.
Configure skill progression
This will allow you to select a progression score for skills.
This will apply to all categories.
This will display the skill progression for the course module.
Enter the value in the text box then press + Add.
Name - this will display the list of all the skills in order.
Edit - Edit the name of the skill progression. This will display above the list where you would normally add a new skill progression.
Change the name of the skill progression, press Save to save the new name, or Cancel to cancel any changes.
Set as start - This will swap the position of the skill progression with the first skill progression with the Start icon.
Set as end - This will swap the position of the skill progression with the last skill progression with the End icon.
Delete - Delete the skill progression.
This will delete the skill progression from all courses.
Filtering calendar views by activity category
There are several places in Perfect Gym where you can filter calendar views using the activity category. This feature makes the calendar view much clearer and easier to manage.
This feature is available starting from R.92 system version
How to filter Activity Categories in the PT calendar in PGM.
If you have multiple Personal Trainers conducting numerous training sessions in your club, using a certain filter leads to a clearer view and helps in identifying the right session.
Go to PGM -> Classes -> Personal training -> Personal training calendar.
On this page open the dropdown list next to the Activity Categories search bar and click the checkboxes next to the activities you want to filter.
How to filter Activity Categories in the Classes calendar in PGM.
Filtering activities can also be done in the class timetable. From multiple types of classes, you can filter a specific one to generate a new calendar view without the necessity to sift among categories of other activities.
Go to PGM -> Classes -> Classes -> Time table.
On this page click on the ●●● icon next to the Preview classes within, then open the drop-down list of Activity category and click the checkboxes next to the activities you want to filter.
How to filter Activity Categories in the booking calendar in the Client Portal.
On the Client Portal site, there is also a calendar where you can customize the schedule insight.
Go to Client Portal -> Book -> Group Fitness.
On this page open the dropdown list next to the Activity type and select the appropriate category you want to filter.
How to filter Activity Categories in the Club's schedule in the POSweb.
In POSweb application you will also find the place with all activities scheduled in one place. To tide the calendar up you can use a suitable filter and classify activities by category.
This option will be available after enabling the appropriate setting. Contact the Support Team to turn on TimeTable.POS.Filters.Category.IsAvailable.
Go to PosWeb -> Classes -> Club's schedule.
On this page open the dropdown list next to the All activities search bar and select the appropriate category you want to filter. This will generate a new view of the calendar.
Hints
Within courses, the same activity category can be used in multiple course types. For example Ongoing/Term based courses with specialised holiday programs. This will allow the students to use the same levels.
