Introduction
This article explains how a member logs in to the Client Portal once two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled. On the Client Portal, 2FA is presented as "two-step verification".
- In this article, you’ll learn how members sign in to the Client Portal using 2FA and a 6-digit code, and what happens if they lose access to their authenticator app.
- This article will be helpful to Front Desk employees and other club employees supporting members with 2FA.
Before you start
- 2FA must be enabled for the member’s company, and the member must have already set it up using an authenticator app on their phone (see the set-up article). No specific authenticator app is required — Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, and 1Password are all supported.
- To learn how to set up 2FA for the first time, see Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) – Set up.
Instruction
How to log in to the Client Portal with 2FA
1. The member opens the Client Portal and enters their email and password as usual.
2. When prompted for the verification code, the member scans the QR code shown in the Client Portal with their authenticator app. The app generates a 6-digit verification code, which the member enters in the Client Portal.
3. The member enters the 6-digit code to finish signing in. The code changes every 30 seconds, so if it expires the member enters the next one the app shows.
Hints
What if a member loses access to their authenticator app?
There are no recovery codes and no self-service "lost my phone" option. If a member loses their authenticator app (new phone, uninstalled app, etc.), they must visit their club in person — an employee can reset their 2FA in PGM so they can pair a new authenticator app on their next login.
